Boats

In Suðureyri we have 6 boats, one for each house and one extra for safety. All boats are 7.5 meters long and specially built for sea angling. They have a 130hp Volvo Penta inboard engine, an outboard drive and a 180l tank for oil. All navigational aids such as GPS positioner, depth sounder, walkie-talkie and fish finder are provided. There are two 280l fishtanks in each boat so you have plenty of space for all fish caught. Out at sea the most important thing is safety and our boats go through a safety inspection every spring. A lifeboat for six fishermen is on board, along with a fire extinguisher, an automatic AIS locator connected to the coast guard and a radio station for reporting vessels. To rent a boat, one of the crew must have a license to sail a leisure boat, but those who do not have a license can take a course with us to get a license.

Fisk Club Westfjords

Fishing area

You are allowed to sail 5 nautical miles from shore, and in that area, there is much more than enough fish to be found. The average depth is around 35-45 meters, but you can find fishing spots from 10 up to 130 meters. You can go deeper, but we don't recommend it. It is good to use a pilks or a rubber fishes that are from 350-750g. You can buy or rent all fishing gear and equipment with us. However, we always recommend that guests bring their own waterproof shoes or boots. Everything else we can arrange on site.

Westfjords Fisk Club

Fishing

Most of the catch is cod, but here you can also find haddock, catfish, pollock, halibut, redfish, monkfish, stingray, plaice, and ling fish. When staying with us you can eat as much of your own catch as you wish. Filleting can be done on the boat and then you can cook it in your cabin. All other caught fish is brought to the fish factory, where the local people turn the whole fish into first class fillets or pieces. Skin and bones are cleaned away before the fish is packed in suitable packaging which is then frozen. After freezing, the fish is packed frozen in cooler bags and then it's ready for a trip back home with you. Each guest can take as much fish back home as they can carry, but bear in mind that a moderate fee is charged for the filleting and packing service. Guests can also trade more fish through the Fisk Club, and if an guest helps their friends to buy fish through the club, they can collect fishing points to get a discount on their next trip to us. See more about that on the page under "join the club".

Fisk Club Westfjords

Suðureyri

About 300 people live in this small fishing village and most of them work in something related to fish. It is therefore very likely that when visitors visit the restaurant in the village, they will find native fishermen mixed with international tourists. Suðureyri has a small grocery shop with milk bread and basic things, a good outdoor swimming pool, hot tubs, and a gym. Fisherman hotel has a lovely seafood restaurant and a little café with a bar that is well worth a visit. From Suðureyri it is only 20 minute drive to Ísafjörður, which is the hub in the area with all the main services like a bigger grocery store, pharmacy and a hospital, alcohol shop etc. On weekdays there is a bus that does three trips a day between the two places, but we recommend that guests have a rental car at their disposal, also to explore the unique Westfjords during their visit.
